One million march for democracy today…

… and the army appears to back them!

Ladbrookes' political bets page not updated

Whilst investigating making political bets, I noticed that Ladbrokes is still claiming that Gordon Brown is prime minister and that there is much speculation on the date he will choose for a general election! According to Ladbrokes, there is a “hot debate” on who will succeed Gordon Brown to No.10 Downing Street. I hope they’re not so slow to pay out the winnings.

Train travel beats air travel

The protests continued overnight in Cairo. The police, when they were present, appeared to have been scared and firing over the heads of the people.

This footage just in (30 minutes ago):

Their world is a-changin’. However, that doesn’t justify me jumping on a plane to get there, just to sample that atmosphere. Far better to wait until they’ve sorted themselves out a little and travel there by train, which doesn’t ruin the atmosphere. I wanted to go, I really did! Had I realised my insight into revolutions is almost always right (whether they succeed or fail), I couldn’t have booked up with Seat 61 and travelled there by train, then boat, because it doesn’t recognise the destination. Incredibly, Google doesn’t know how to travel between Brighton and Cairo, even though one of the most sophisticated overland travel systems – Europe – is in between. Perhaps I should just gamble on politics and donate the winnings to good causes? Unfortunately that would mean taking up the one vice I have so far avoided. Probably should take some advice on political gambling first.
