Bed Netting

Leo Littman gave me this great idea for protecting my raised beds from the pesky neighbourhood cats, who like to use dug earth to shit in, and birds, who like to eat the seeds we are about to sow. His bed netting is a bit more of a modest affair but the principle is the same.

No Cat Walk!

It’s made out of good old stiffened garden netting, tacked onto bits of reclaimed pallets with netting tacks. Here’s the netting tacks in action:

A Tack Is The Best Form Of Defence

Incidentally, I was out canvassing for Leo in Preston ward again last night. I was a bit annoyed that I couldn’t do Havelock Road, where I grew up. One of the candidates, Mike Jones, didn’t want to canvass in his own street, lest his neighbours felt pressurised. Consequently, I did his street – Chester Terrace – and he took on Havelock Road. What a joy it is to canvass for the Greens in Brighton these days! The feedback from the doorstep is almost embarassingly gushing. The frequent TV appearances by Caroline Lucas MP have raised the bar considerably. Don’t remember our previous MP, Dave Lepper, getting on telly at all. Looks like Leo and Mike will win seats alongside Amy Kennedy in Preston ward. We’re not getting complacent though. In fact, we’re upping our activism in the run up the election.

Correction

A friend, who happens to be a police officer specialising in data forensics, has pointed out to me that the best way to tie up computer cables, contrary to the video I previously posted, is to use reusable cable ties. Doh!
