Everyone needs a day off, even a blogger. It might look as if I’ve had several days off lately but in fact I’ve been buried in electrical calculations. Today, I’m taking a proper bit of a day off – I’m off for a sauna. Probably won’t spend the whole day in the hot zone. Not sure that is even possible.
I’m a big fan of saunas. They work best when you can run around naked outside afterwards. Sadly that is not really possible today, famous though Brighton is for its free and easy culture. The Lost Horizon festival sauna crew make this a reality but it’s been a while since I’ve made it to a festival. The overall best sauna I’ve between to was in Findhorn. It’s only open to that particular hippy retreat’s members – I scavenged a backstage pass. As with all the best saunas, it is accompanied by a huge cold plunge pool, housed in a vast whisky cask. The thirty yards of open air between the sauna and the icy waters inside the cask were an epic journey. There will be no such epic journey today. There will be no plunge pool. Unfortunately there will be hundreds of screaming kids riding the water slide directly above the sauna – it is bloody half term week. It will not be spiritual bliss. It will be closer to hell on earth. That’s what a blogger does on his day off.
