Leaders and followers – which would you rather be?

Ah yes, the old Hegelian question! The plain fact is that it is impossible to have one without the other. Our culture hero worships leaders but relies on most people being followers. Perhaps it was ever thus.

This video argues that the most important components of a new social movement are the early followers. Whether the dancing chap actually gave a toss about whether anyone danced with him or not is definitely moot. Jesus on the other hand, without his disciples would just have been another ideological idiot lost in the sands of history. He definitely wanted followers and the role of the first 12 seem to fit with this video’s fragile and simplistic analysis. Could it be that the narrator’s world view has been overly informed by the culture that he was born into. The one drenched in Abrahamic nonsense?

Anyway, it’s quite a funny video even if it does overly analyse a situation without sufficient knowledge of the real facts on the ground – for example there may have been relationships already existing between the early dancers which played on their minds when deciding to dance. What do you think?
