Couldn’t understand the widespread popularity of Meccano when I was a kid. The thrill seemed to lie entirely in the anticipation, rather than the completion. The finished product was always somewhat lame. At least, it was if it passed through my hands. The way the screws worked themselves loose, even in a construction without moving parts, remains baffling.
Designing, constructing & testing a set of circuits is, of course, a far more serious challenge. It is like Meccano for properly trained adults. I am now such a creature. I hope my screws don’t come loose again.
