My wife and I separated on 31st July 2013 by mutual agreement, after a discussion about how miserable we were making each other and the prospects for that changing. We’d been together for twelve years and married for ten, so it has been a wrench for both of us. Luckily, it now seems, we haven’t had children together. The split is as amicable as it can be, with my wife helping me as much as she can, whilst I found somewhere else to live. Fortunately, some friends took me in; they were looking for a lodger.
My wife is a wonderful woman, with many more talents than me. It was she who most encouraged me to start this blog, to get writing generally, to follow my dreams with a passion. The dates described here are, of course, jokes, conceived as much by her as me. I have much to thank her for and I hope, in time, that she will also look back on our time together with fond memories.
I’ve found the last week and a half very hard and took to hard drinking to obliterate my feelings. This has now got to stop. I’m determined to make the best of what life has left to offer me. Afternoons and evenings in the pub are not part of that.
I’m very grateful for all the offers of support, from all sorts of people, ranging from good old friends to complete strangers on twitter. As it is, I don’t really want to discuss anything much with anyone. Certainly, I couldn’t face spending several weeks obliged to tell everyone my news. Thus the tweeting and this post. Social media allows me to avoid social calls.
And the future? Well, I’m really enjoying my new job and feel optimistic that I can find my mojo again at some point in the not too distant future. Being a red-blooded male, I have no doubt that a weekend of athletic sex with a someone equally keen at losing themselves in physical pleasure would do me a tonne of good but that isn’t really what I want. Instead, I’ll be concentrating on my health, eating well, exercising, getting good quality sleep, letting time pass and healing my broken heart. Until I recover myself, please don’t expect much from me!
